China Poker is known to be one of the most intriguing poker games by those who have played it at any length. It has also gained a reputation as being one of the most expensive poker games for those who did not play it correctly.
There are certain Strategies that should be implemented when playing China Poker. There are also several common mistakes that frequently result in the loss of large sums of money.
Below you will find a list of the most common mistakes made in China Poker, and how to avoid them.
Improper Hand
Development
The most common mistake made in China Poker in concentrating on the best development of a single hand. It is not imperative to focus on all three hands, so long as you pay close attention to the development of at least two. After all, losing two of three hands will not result in a profit.
Let’s take a look at the Front, Middle and Back Hands that most often win.
Back Hand: Full House or
Flush
Middle Hand: Straight or High Trips
Front Hand:
Pair
If you can meet or exceed at least two of these frequent winning hands, you can avoid the most common mistake in China Poker. However, there is an exception to this rule when it comes to avoiding a scoop.
Don’t Get
Scooped
Never allow yourself to
get ‘Scooped’ in China Poker. A player is scooped when he loses every hand,
costing a tidy sum of betting units when the final scores are tallied. If your
options are create one good hand, or create three average-to-lousy ones, create
the one great hand. Getting scooped is the worst thing a player can possibly do
in China Poker. If you can’t manage at least one great hand out of the bunch,

Knowing When To
Surrender
Not all China Poker games allow a player to Surrender, but those that do should see extra attention paid to this option by the player. Using the table above, describing the frequent winning Front, Middle and Back Hands, determine the strength of your own hands and calculate how many points you can expect to score. To Surrender will cost either 3 or 6 units, depending on the rules in play. Know how many units a Surrender will cost you, and weigh the likely outcome if you stay in the hand.
-If you do not expect to win
any of the hands
outright – Surrender.
-If you expect to win a single hand outright – Do Not
Surrender.
Disregarding
Player Tendencies
In many poker games, the most successful strategy is the one that best suits his or her own preferred style of play. In China Poker, on the other hand, the best strategy should be based on your opponents’ style of play. Therefore, observing the tendencies of your opposition is imperative.
For example, do one or more opponents tend to focus on the development of the Back Hand? [Refer to Common Mistake #1, Improper Hand Development.] If so, be sure to focus on your Middle and Front Hands to maximize profit from these opponents.
Another example would be
opponents who spread their hands out too much, frequently developing all average
hands, but no sure-fire winners. Against these kinds of opponents, your best bet
is to create two great hands, disregarding the other. Again, this maximizes your
profit.
