Razz is an intriguing variation of 7 Card Stud. If you’ve ever played 7 Card Stud High/Low, you understand that not only the highest hand wins, but a qualifying ‘lowest hand’ can split the pot. If you remove the typically winning ‘highest hand’ from the equation, you are left with 7 Card Stud Low – known as “Razz”.
Other terms used to describe the game of Razz are “Ace To Five Lowball” or “Deuce To Seven Lowball”, each having their own distinct rule variations. If you’ve ever seen a game of “H.O.R.S.E.”, a popular recurring event found in the World Series of Poker, the “R” in the name stands for “Razz”.
What makes Razz so different from every other poker game is that you are working diligently to develop the worst possible hand. Straights and Flushes are not considered viable hands in Razz and Aces are always low, therefore the best (lowest) possible hand one can achieve is 5-High, A-2-3-4-5.
Rules
The rules of Razz poker take a bit of getting used to, since most poker players are accustomed to developing the highest possible hand, but once you get into the swing of things, it is a very easy game to comprehend. For a detailed lay-out of the Rules of Razz poker, click the left menu button labeled, “Rules”.
Starting
Hands
Like most poker games, the decision to place a wager or bow out early should be based on two factors – player position and Starting Hands. Having a good Starting Hand in Razz is an extremely important aspect of winning the game. Please select “Starting Hands” from the left menu for an in-depth analysis of the best Starting Hands in Razz poker.
Strategy
Any successful poker player will tell you, without strategy, you cannot consistently win at poker. Like any other poker game, Razz offers a list of viable strategies and maneuvers that can catapult the average luck-reliant enthusiast to a skilled, profiteering poker player. Choose “Strategy” from the menu on the left for a detailed list of Razz Strategies.
Common
Mistakes
