Poker has become increasingly popular over the last few years and of all
different poker variations it’s Texas hold’em that’s taken the lead. Texas
Hold’em is by far the most popular poker game today and also the subject of this
poker school.
In this poker school we have compiled both the rules of the game as well
as our own knowledge. It is our hope that you by reading this will quickly be
able to learn the game and soon become a winning player. The poker school is
divided into 8 chapters all of which should be studied
carefully.
It is important to know the basics of the game before starting to play. If you don´t learn the basics your probably going to loose your initial deposit very quickly. At the same time we know that it’s not always easy to take the time to read the poker books one should. In this case it might be easier to study our poker school to get started a bit faster. Even so we still recommend that you read poker books to increase your knowledge thus becoming a better player. Reading poker books is more or less a must do before playing at the higher limits.
Apart from our poker school several of the poker rooms also have poker schools. These also work as an introduction to the game. The banner below contains a link to the PartyPoker poker school which we think is quite good.
As we mentioned earlier it
is not always necessary to study a lot of books before starting with poker but
we definitely recommend you to learn the basics. As we all know “practice makes
perfect” so in the end there is nothing but studying and practicing just like in
any sport or game. If you study our poker school we definitely think that you
should be well equipped for the lower limit tables. Obviously we can’t guarantee
anything but hope that this can give you a framework as how you should play and
serve as a beginning to your poker career. Good luck!
Poker rules
The first two chapter
contains the rules of the game. In the first chapter we start
of by explaining the rules of Texas Hold’em and the different variations. In the
second chapter we explain what hand wins in poker the so called rank of hands.
If you already know how to play these first two chapters are probably known to
you so please feel free to jump to the next chapters.

Poker strategy
After you’ve learnt the basics it’s important to learn how to play a
winning game. We start of with a discussion about position
which is the one of the most important aspects of the game. After position we go
through how you should reason when choosing your starting hands. We also give
you examples of what a starting hand chart might look like both
for fixed limit and no limit.
Chapter 3: Position
Chapter 4: Starting hands
After
knowing what starting hands to play it is important to understand odds and
probability and how this affects your game play. This is a very important aspect
of the game and is essential when making decisions after the flop. See chapter
5, 6 and 7.
Chapter 5 serves as an
introduction as shows you how to read the table. Chapter 6 and 7 teaches you how
to calculate your odds and thus making the correct
decisions.
Chapter 5: Reading the
table
Chapter 6: Odds and
probability
Chapter 7: Implied
odds
Last but not least we describe when and when not to bluff.
Chapter 8: Bluffing
After you have read all the chapters we also suggest you read our article on game theory under the tab poker strategy. This will give you further insight into the game.
When you have finished reading our poker school you should have a descent knowledge of how to play the game from start to finish. Even so we still recommend you to check out our reading strategy for Texas Hold’em under the tab poker strategy.
Thinking of
playing?
Do you want to try the real thing? Well then we
recommend you first try the play money tables at any well known poker room . We
ourselves recommend PartyPoker and
Bet365 (among other rooms under
the tab poker rooms) which both have play money tables and poker schools. The
game play at play money tables is of course often quite crazy (since there is no
money involved people tend to ignore how to play well) however it gives you a
chance to get the know and feel for the game so that you can relax a bit when
you change to the real money tables.
Thinking of playing right now? The go to our selection of poker rooms under the tab poker rooms. These are all solid poker rooms and represent the biggest poker rooms in the world. There is also a sign-up bonus to collect if you sign-up at any of the presented rooms.
